Build an ATS-friendly, shortlist-worthy resume
Tips
One page only
As a fresher, your resume must be exactly 1 page. Recruiters spend 6–8 seconds on a first scan — keep it tight.
Structure: Education → Projects → Skills → Certs
Experience comes first only for professionals. For freshers, show what you've built before where you've worked.
Use action verbs
Start every bullet with: Built, Developed, Implemented, Designed, Automated, Reduced, Increased, Optimised, Integrated, Deployed.
Quantify your impact
"Made website faster" → "Reduced page load from 8 s to 1.8 s via lazy loading and image compression." Numbers stand out.
GitHub + LinkedIn are mandatory
Add both URLs below your contact info. Recruiters WILL visit. Ensure GitHub has pinned repos with READMEs.
No photo, no DOB, no address
Photos cause ATS parse errors and unconscious bias. Skip date of birth and full home address too.
CGPA: include only if ≥ 7.5
Below 7.5? Just write degree + year. Never lie — it's verified during onboarding.
Checklist
Common Mistakes
"Responsible for handling customer queries"
Use action verbs. Rewrite: "Handled 50+ daily customer queries, achieving 95% first-contact resolution."
Listing skills you barely know
Only put a skill if you can answer 5 interview questions on it. "Machine Learning" after one Coursera course invites trouble.
Generic objective statement
Remove: "Seeking a challenging position to utilise my skills." Replace with a 2-line profile summary specific to the role.
Unprofessional email address
"coolboy99@gmail.com" is a red flag. Create firstname.lastname@gmail.com for your professional identity.
Multiple fonts or 4+ font sizes
Use 1 font (Calibri / Arial / Roboto). 2 sizes only: 11 pt body, 14 pt name. Bold for headings only.
